Meet Dr. May Elgash
Saguaro Dermatology is excited to welcome Dr. May Elgash to our team of excellent physicians!
As a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, Dr. Elgash brings an exceptional background in skin cancer treatment, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. Combining elite academic training with the warm, approachable demeanor of the “dermatologist next door,” she is dedicated to delivering personalized, patient-centered care – and we are so excited to welcome her home to the Valley! Dr. Elgash will be seeing patients in our Mesa Surgery Clinic, as well as our Phoenix, and Ahwatukee locations.
What led you to choose medicine and then specifically dermatology?
My dad is an internist in the Valley, so medicine was always a part of my life. I knew I wanted to choose a career path that would leave me feeling deeply fulfilled, and helping people address their skin concerns is incredibly rewarding. I love all things skin and feel so lucky that I get to practice dermatology every day!
Can you tell us more about your specialized training in Mohs surgery?
I completed my fellowship training at Yale University, where I performed over a thousand Mohs cases under the mentorship of world-renowned experts in the field. Most recently, I spent time providing Mohs surgery in rural Pennsylvania as one of the only fellowship-trained specialists in the area. Treating many large and advanced skin cancers there meant so much to me because I was able to bring critical care to a community that truly needed it.
What brought you to Saguaro Dermatology?
When I met the other providers at the practice, I immediately felt a warm, welcoming energy. We completely aligned in our desire to offer excellent, evidence-based care, and I could instantly picture myself as part of this team. Plus, as a Scottsdale native, joining Saguaro Dermatology gave me the perfect opportunity to come home and be closer to family!
What do you love most about your work?
Helping my patients feel good in their own skin, successfully removing skin cancers, and guiding people toward ways to improve their overall skin health. I also love getting to know the people I care for – my patients have the most interesting lives! Dermatology offers so much wonderful variety, and I truly love what I do.
What’s your favorite skincare tip or habit for your patients?
A big floppy hat! Anyone who knows me knows I’m rarely without one. It provides fantastic protection for the scalp, ears, and nose, which take on a tremendous amount of daily sun exposure. It also helps prevent sun-induced signs of aging – and best of all, unlike sunscreen, a great hat never needs to be reapplied!
How do you enjoy spending your time outside of the clinic?
I have two young boys who keep me incredibly busy! We love exploring the Valley together, going on road trips, and spending quality time with our extended family. It’s been so special being back home in Arizona and sharing the exact places I grew up with my kids.
