About Customized Facials

What is a facial?

A facial is a multi-step skin treatment that targets individual skin concerns and can be a healthy part of your overall skin regimen. At Saguaro Dermatology, a facial treatment always starts with a skin consultation so that our esthetician, Shelly, can learn about you, your skin concerns, your current skin regimen and lifestyle. The consultation is generally followed by deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and ends with treatment masks – all of which will vary, depending upon your skin’s needs.

How do I know if a facial is right for me?

Because our facials are tailored to meet your individual needs, a facial could be right for you for a number of different reasons including: dry skin, oily skin, blemishes, acne, aging, hyperpigmentation, melasma, scaring and more. Facials are also beneficial for overall skin health, regardless of your concerns, and are a great addition to your skin care routine. If needed, our esthetician Shelly will work with our board-certified dermatologist, Dathan Hamann, MD, FAAD, to complement your medical skin care regimen as well.

Are there different types of facials?

At Saguaro Dermatology, we have a wide variety of facials. Depending on what type of skin concerns you have, we will customize a treatment that will benefit your skin the most. Our treatments range from classic facials to detox and decongesting facials to hydrating facials to anti-aging facials and brightening facials. We use different tools, equipment and techniques such as microdermabrasion, pressure point massage and light emitting diodes (LED) abased therapies. We always start with a skin analysis to determine what would be appropriate for your specific skin type and then choose the right facial for you.

Can facials help with my acne?

When acne is related to trapped dirt, oil and dead skin, a facial may be the successful treatment you’ll need to stop or minimize breakouts. Facials can be helpful at detoxifying the skin and decongesting pores, which can leave the skin smoother. Facials that target breakouts may include professional products with salicylic acid, extractions, peels or high frequency tools.

How often should I get a facial?

Our skin regenerates every 28 days, or more if you are older. Generally speaking, every four to six weeks would be ideal to get a professional facial treatment. That way, you are not only in sync with your cellular turnover but also regularly checking in with an esthetician to make sure your skincare regimen is on track. When dealing with severe acne or hyperpigmentation, you may visit the spa for a series of more frequent treatments.
